Hear from an award-winning super-sleuthing journalist and a king of motion graphics and then celebrate KPC's contest winners and its COA.

Conference schedule

9:30 a.m.

Doors open with an opportunity to socialize and network, hosted by KPC President Amy Geiszler-Jones. A short 10-minute business meeting of KPC members will take place in the second half of this 30-minute session.

10 a.m.

Sleuthing Superpowers. Learn how Chance Swaim, an investigative journalist at The Wichita Eagle, has uncovered, corrupt, slanderous, scandalous stories — from contract cronyism to a false smear ad — as the public's watchdog. Those stories garnered him and two colleagues a George Polk Award for political reporting.

11 a.m.

Motion Mania. Wichitan Justin McClure has built a national reputation for motion graphics. Take a peek behind the curtain to hear how he and his team at Justin McClure Creative have landed clients that include CMT, SyFy and National Geographic channels, as well as a founded-in-Wichita burger-and-custard chain with more than 300 locations.

12:15 p.m.

Celebrating Communicators. Enjoy your lunch and help celebrate the winners of KPC's annual communications contest. Plus we'll reveal the recipient of KPC's 2021 Communicator of Achievement Award, KPC's highest honor. First-place contest winners and our COA will go on to compete for national awards through our parent organization, the National Federation of Press Women.

Please note: There will be very short breaks in between sessions for participants to grab snacks, coffee, check an email or other quick tasks.
